My name is Jan Kałuża. I speak very little to no Polish, so my apologies if this is a requirement. I have access to the parish records for Jagodniki, but I am interested to understand if prior to 1784 that area was known by another name or if the village did not exist prior to that. My family name begins to show in records around 1784 for Jagodniki, but no reference prior to that.

Parish records of Jagodniki village before 1783 were kept by Opatowiec parish (other side of Wisła river), not Wietrzychowice.
(in Wietrzychowice parish you can find Jagodniki's docs only from 1783-1784).
I'm afraid there is no existing full parish register of Opatowiec - but there's an index (short version) survived.
I have copies of this index (births 1614-1658, 1689-1731, 1733-1748, 1753-1765, 1770-1810, mariages 1619-1700, 1704-1738, 1797-1810,
deaths 1778-1791, 1797-1810). Unfortunately many records are missing. But I can find some names in the index or send the copies via e-mail.

Thank you both. Mike, I have been to your site many times, it has provided much information to help me shape a picture of the village in Jagodniki.

Krzysztof, thank you as well. I had a feeling that either the records for Jagodniki belonged to another parish or that my first father ( Jozef Kałuża ) came from another town, which I thought was unlikely. In particular I am interested in finding any information that will lead me a little further back in time. Jozef died in Jagodniki in 1805, listed as being 70 years old at the time of his death. (that puts his birth somewhere between 1730 and 1735. Another relative Piotr Kałuża was about the same age, but a little younger. I don't have his death so I can't confirm how old he was. In most of the records, they lived in House # 14 and House # 8, respectively. If you are able to find something please let me know.

What a coincidence, John - my family lived in Jagodniki No. 8, too! Their name was Staszkowicz vel Socha vel Kiszka (three versions appears, the second and third one less official). I have also Magdalena Kałuża in my family tree (abt. 1764-1794) from Wola Przemykowska. Her daughter, Magdalena Giza, moved to Jagodniki after she got married in 1804 (but I don't know much about Kałuża family).
If it's possible, give me more details about Józef, Piotr and their families (spouses, children). I'll browse through my registers from Opatowiec parish and write you back the results.

I have seen the Staskowicz name many times in the records I am indexing, haven't seen the connection there yet.

Jozef Kałuża Died: 20 Feb 1805, listed as 70 years old
M: Katarzyna Laszcz on 7 May 1789 (lists his age as 58y)

Children: Wojiech, Blasius, Casimina, Zofia, Laurencjusz (my 4th great grandfather)

Piotr Kałuża died: 3 Nov 1796, listed as 34 years old
M: Teresia Szymczak

Children: Katarzyna, Dominik, Apollonia, Margaretha, Hedwigis, Francisca, Wincenty
